Ratatouille is a very popular vegetable stew from France. It is made using regional vegetables including tomatoes, eggplants, and zucchini.

Ciambotta is another vegetable stew from Italy that is made from similar ingredients.

However, there is a slight difference in how these two dishes are prepared as well as the ingredients  

For ratatouille, some of the ingredients are often cooked separately and then combined, they may also be cooked together until tender.

Ciambotta on the other hand is typically prepared as a one-pot dish where all the ingredients are cooked together.

Another difference between both vegetable stews is that potatoes are often used in ciambotta but not in ratatouille.

A very popular and versatile dish, it may appear very complex, but it is actually a very easy dish to prepare  

Ratatouille is made from fresh summer vegetables such as eggplants, tomatoes, zucchini and bell peppers. It may be seasoned with onions, basil, thyme and garlic. 

These vegetables are chopped into chunky bits and slices before they are cooked.

The methods of preparation varies from chef to chef, and also from one region to another.

The different vegetables are often cooked separately, following which they are mixed together and then cooked a bit more to allow their flavors to blend.

The ingredients of this vegetable stew can also be cooked together as a pot dish for ease.

Ratatouille is usually cooked over low heat for some period of time until the vegetables are tender. 

This vegetable stew could be served warm or at room temperature.

It can be served as a main dish. It can also be served as a side dish alongside a variety of other foods including rice and pasta

Not all vegetables can withstand the slow cooking process involved in stewing especially vegetables with softer textures which may become mushy once subjected to stewing.

Firm textured vegetables are more suited for this process of food preparation.

However, while the vegetables that have firmer textures are added earlier, those that may get soggy can be added towards the end of cooking so that the stew doesn’t become too mushy.
