The Different Types Of Lemon Juicers And Squeezers

There are so many benefits to making your fresh lemon juice by yourself.

First, it is cheaper to make, and then you get to decide the extra ingredients(water, sugar) that would be added to your lemon juice.

Also, if you’re concerned about the hygiene conditions of where your food is being made, then you get the chance to make your food in a clean environment.

Fresh lemon juice is very rich in vitamins and has been said to have some antibacterial properties.

If you’re thinking of adding some fresh lemon juice to your diet plan, then you need a juicer to help you extract enough juice from the lemon fruit.

WHAT IS A JUICER?

A Juicer can help you to extract enough fresh lemon juice out of lemon fruit and neatly separate it from the fibers. This appliance is portable and easy to make use of. It also doesn’t take too much space and would fit perfectly on your kitchen counter.

Some juicers, especially the handheld ones can fit into your kitchen cabinet until you’re ready to use them.

These juicers are not restricted to lemon fruits alone. In addition to making lemon juice, you can also get to use these juicers for other citruses like limes or oranges to make juice. Some types of juicers can be used on solid fruits including apples and even vegetables like carrots to also extract their juice.

So, If you are interested in adding some fresh lemon juice to your diet as well as interested in making your lemon juice by yourself, you have several options when it comes to selecting a juicer.

In this post, I’ll describe a couple of the popular types of juicers, so that you can select the type of juicer that might work best for you. I am also going to explain the difference between blenders and juicers so that you don’t get confused.

TYPES OF JUICERS FOR LEMON

Let’s start with a broad classification of juicers, I’ll classify the juicers, especially the ones you can use to extract juice from lemon fruits based on how they can be powered.

Juicers can be broadly classified into

  • Electric Juicers
  • Manual/ hand operated

ELECTRIC JUICERS

Electric juicers are easier to use, and most types of juicers under this category take lesser time to work.

These juicers would most likely do a better job in squeezing out fresh juice from your lemon and other fruits than the manually operated juicers.

Although they are the more expensive juicer options, they’ll do a better job squeezing out more juice and separating the fibers than the hand-operated one.

The electric juicers are can also be classified into these three types.

  • Citrus juicers
  • Masticating juicers
  • Centrifugal juicers

1. CITRUS JUICERS

The electric citrus juicer are designed specifically for citrus fruits including lemons, limes, and oranges.

These juicer may have a similar design to some of the handheld or manual juicer although electrically operated, so ensure to confirm that it is electrically operated before getting one.

If you are only interested in lemon juice and other citruses, then these juicers are perfect for lemon fruits and for squeezing juice from other citrus fruits. You also do not have to bother about peeling the lemon or removing the seeds. All you have to do is cut the fruit in half and place them on the electric juicer.

2. CENTRIFUGAL JUICERS

These juicers are used for several types of fruits including lemon and solid fruits like apples. Unlike the citrus juicers, these can also be used for extracting juice out of some vegetables.

To use these juicers to extract the juice from your lemon, the lemon has to be peeled

Then the fruit is inserted into a chamber with grates or meshes, which spins at high speeds to extract the juice. These particular juicers are also very fast.

The fresh juice is collected separately after passing through a strainer and the fiber is also collected in another container.

3. MASTICATING JUICERS

They are also known as slow juicers

Unlike the centrifugal juicers, the fruits are inserted into a narrow chamber that doesn’t rotate, but the contents in the chamber are then squeezed by an auger. These types of juicers are slower compared to centrifugal juicers, although they tend to foam less.

They can also be used for solid fruits and some type of vegetables

MANUALLY OPERATED JUICERS

The manually operated juicers are often Handheld. You might know them as squeezers or reamers. They have different designs which all work with the same principle, manually squeezing out the juicer from the lemon.

These juicers may be made of stainless steel or plastic, and they are cheaper than the electric juicers.

They are small, portable, lightweight, and can be used for oranges as well as limes.

To use these juicers, the lemons are cut in half and the juice is extracted using a mechanism that applies pressure on the lemon fruit to squeeze out fresh juice.

Reamers require you to press the lemon fruit by hand onto the reamer to squeeze out the lemon juice from the fruit

They also have a strainer which helps to separate fibers and seeds from the freshly squeezed lemon juice.

These juicers are good for citrus fruits but cannot be used for solid fruits like apples, or vegetables

These juicers take more time and require a lot of energy, and they may extract lesser lemon juice compared to the electric models

However, if you need a cheap option juicer for your lemon fruits, then you could go for the plastic manually operated, although the acid in the fruits may wear the plastic off

JUICERS VS BLENDERS

Blenders and juicers are two different appliances that perform two different functions. Blenders can also be used for your lemon fruit, but when the blender is used, the product is quite different from when you use a juicer.

WHAT IS A BLENDER

A blender is a kitchen appliance that uses fast-spinning blades at its bottom to chop or crush the contents which are inside the blender.

For fruits, the blender can easily turn them into liquid form just like the juicer. However, when using a blender for your lemon fruit or for other fruits, the pulp doesn’t get separated from the juice and therefore the juice comes out thicker.

The pulp which doesn’t get separated from the juice is rich in fiber. Blenders are therefore more suited for making smoothies.

Blenders can be used for processing vegetables as well.

There’s a lot of debate regarding which one is better between juicers and blenders. Each has its benefits as juicers are suited for juicing, while blenders are the right appliance for making smoothies

SUMMARY

All these juicers can do a great job in making your lemon juice, however selecting the right one comes down to several factors, the electric juicers would do a much better work when it comes to the quantity, as well as the quality of the juice.

The manual or hand-operated models are less expensive and might be suitable for you in the short term.
